This temple complex consists of a few ancient shrines carved on the rock cliff which was built in 11 century. It is located in the middle of the island surrounded by beautiful rice field and in front of the shrines flows historical river of Pakerisan. To get to this temple you have to walk through 300 steps in the middle of rice field.

The name Tirta Empul consist of two words “Tirta” means holy water and “Empul” means come out of the ground (spring).
